Taraba
state government is to create more revenue sources in 2017 to improve on
its dwindling revenue from the federation allocation brought by current
recession.
Governor Darius Ishaku disclosed the plans for exploiting all sources of local revenue while presenting this year’s budget estimates to the state house of Assembly at the weekend in Jalingo.
He said under the plan new revenue sources were identified and taxes will be collected from such sources.
According to him the sum of 25 billion Naira was projected to be generated internally a figure he said was higher than 2016projection.
He said monitoring team was put in place and will be on ground in all 16 local government areas to ensure that all revenue collected was paid into the state coffers.
The Governor explained further that all loop holes will be blocked and government funds will be channelled into priority areas so as reduce waste.
He said the green house projects for the cultivation of vegetables in commercial quantity during dry season will be completed in early 2017, adding that the project was conceived in order to create more revenue base for the state.
The governor therefore urged revenue officers to show more commitment and honesty in the discharge of their assignment pointing out that they would be closely monitored.
