Taraba Government on Friday said it has paid the
sum of N800m to the Federal Government as
counterpart fund for the 2015 Universal Basic
Education Commission Projects in the state.
The State Universal Basic Education Board
Chairman,
Mr. Yakubu Agbaizo, told journalists in Jalingo
that
the payment would enable the board to draw
some
funds to execute projects in the education sector.
He explained that the fund would be used in the
development of primary and secondary schools
education in the state.
Agbaizo said Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba
was
working assiduously to pay the 2016 counterpart
funds in spite of the economic recession in the
country.
He said the board had saved over N31m monthly
from the detection of various fraudulent activities
in
the board since his appointment as the chairman.
Agbaizo said the United Bank for Africa was
currently
handling a bio-metric verification exercise for the
board to ascertain the actual number of teachers
on
its payroll.
He said that the exercise would also assist the
board
in getting rid of illegal recruitment and padding of
teachers’ salaries.
Agbaizo, who is the best 2016 SUBEB Executive
Chairman in the North East, said the verification
exercise would end soon.
