For the Federal University of Wukari, in Taraba
state to achieve its set up goals and objectives,
the host community, according to the deputy
senate Minority, Emmanue Bwacha, must extend
the much needed hands of friendships to the
institution.
For this sole reason, he urged his constituents to
ensure a good host community-university
relationship by giving the University the
necessary cooperation and support for it to
attain greater heights.
Bwacha, who was in the university to fraternized
with both the staffs and students of the
institution called on the host community to
eschew acts capable of jeopardizing the dream of
the university.
He also charged the school authority to as well
reciprocate by carrying along the host community
in activities that would herald growth to both the
institution and its immediate environment.
The senator who also took his time to robbed
mind with the Vice Chancellor
Professor Abubakar Musa Kundiri, said the red
chamber of the National Assemble is fashioning
out measures that would attends to the plights
of higher institutions in the country.
The said varsity, as noticed by our state
correspondent, is among the nine newest federal
universities in the country that were created by
the immediate past President Jonathan Goodluck
administration.
Certain that the much needed olive branch
would be extended to the university by the host
community, Bwacha dummed that “I have visited
the university to assure you, as a people, of our
cooperation, to give you the necessary support to
succeed as the vice chancellor of the university.”
Adding that “We as the elites of Taraba State and
this community in particular, shall synergise with
you and the university to ensure there is no
communication gaps to enable you succeed.”
The senator said he was holding talks with the
senate committee chairman on education, in
addition to the two bills he has sponsored in the
senate that would soon be passed into law, to
help the university succeed stressing that “The
university is sited in our home; it’s ours, and we
shall do everything possible within our capacity
to enable it grow and develop.”
On his own part, the VC said he was doing his
best to give the institution “a world class status”
in spite of the challenges presently confronting
him.
According to him “I want to give Taraba people a
university of the future. Like I have told the staff,
I am not here to take away jobs from the people,
but to provide a world class university like the
Oxford and Cambridge universities that were
located in the villages but became famous.
“And I have the knowledge and experience to do
that. For now, the university is at the lowest ebb.
We must go through the pains to work and
contribute in order to succeed.
“My students should be able to compete with
those anywhere. That is why I am happy to see
you (Bwacha) here discussing about the future of
this university.”
Overwhelmed by the senator’s visit, the VC said
“Now, I feel more of a Jukun man, despite the
challenges, and I want to let you know that the
Wukari University is waxing strong, but we must
have a driving force.”
